Unclaimed Baggage
What they do: Buy unclaimed luggage from airlines for resale.
Inspiration: Doyle Owens got a call from a Washington DC friend working for a busline. The company needed to dispose of unclaimed baggage. Owens brought the luggage home for re-sale and was surprised at how rapidly he moved the merchandise.
About the business: Buys luggage unclaimed from major airlines after 120 days. Sells the merchandise in a 40,000 sq. ft. store called the Unclaimed Baggage Center in Scottsboro Alabama. The center gets nearly 7,000 bags daily. More than a million customers shop at the center every year.
