Inspiration: When college student Nathan Seidle’s programmer for a micro-controller project burned out, he went online looking for a replacement. After much searching, he finally found rare, cheap high-quality parts in Bulgaria, and began importing them to sell to fellow engineering students.
About the business: Sparkfun in an online store for gamers and electronic wonks. The website also offers forums and tutorials. Recent sales $7 million.
